If Noah Built an ark in 2008

And lo, in the year 2008, the Lord came unto Noah, who was now living in the United States, and said:

"Once again, the earth has become wicked and over-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me."

"Build another Ark and save two of every living thing along with a few good humans."

He gave Noah the blueprints, saying, "You have 6 months to build the ark before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights."

Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard, but there was no ark.

"Noah! I'm about to start the rain! Where is the ark?"

"Forgive me, Lord," begged Noah, "but things have changed."

"I needed a building permit."

"I've been arguing with the inspector about the need for a sprinkler system."

"My neighbors claim that I've violated the neighborhood zoning laws by building the ark in my yard and exceeding the height limitations. We had to go to the Development Appeal Board for a decision."

"Then the Department of Transportation demanded a bond be posted for the future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the passage for the ark's move to the sea. I told them that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear nothing of it."

"Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban on cutting local trees in order to save the spotted owl."

"I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls, but no go!"

"When I started gathering the animals, an animal rights group sued me. They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. They argued the accommodations were too restrictive, and it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a confined space."

"Then the EPA ruled that I couldn't build the ark until they'd conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood."

"I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I'm supposed to hire for my building crew."

"Immigration and Naturalization are checking the green-card status of most of the people who want to work."

"The trades unions say I can't use my sons. They insist I have to hire only Union workers with ark-building experience.

"To make matters worse, the IRS seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species."

"So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to finish this Ark."

Suddenly, the skies cleared, the sun began to shine, and a rainbow stretched across the sky.

Noah looked up in wonder and asked, "You mean you're not going to destroy the world?"

"No," said the Lord. "The government beat me to it."

Crazy Times Makes Stressed Out Girls

These last couple of weeks our house has had some crazy busy times. The girls don’t know if we are coming or going or when it is time to sleep.

As I wrote about before we went up to Tahoe to do some camping with Papa Bear’s family. Then came home to have the cinderblock put in around the the cement pad for the retaining wall. (Which looks really nice I might add.) Then Papa Bear came back home from work and we the next day we immediately worked on loading up to go visit his sister from Wyoming. She came down to visit the family and stayed at the brother’s house. So Friday we were in Valley Springs for a BBQ and swimming. Saturday we had my brother’s family over at the house for dinner. And finally on Sunday we went to Papa Bear’s parents house to have another BBQ with the family.

On Monday morning I loaded the girls up and headed back to Valley Springs to go with them to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and then onto Alcatraz in San Francisco on Tuesday. Both days we didn’t make it back until 12:30 or 1:00 AM. Those were both crazy busy days for the girls. Let’s just say we are still adjusting.

We did have a lot of fun though. Who wouldn’t.

At Santa Cruz Silly Girl went on all kinds of rides. She always has such a thoughtful face while on the ride so you don’t know if she is having fun or not. But once off the ride she is sooo excited. On one ride – a roller coaster – once the ride was over she begged to go on it again. She loved it. 100_3672

At the beach she was running around the place and playing in the sand like it was just one giant sandbox. The whole thing was just so much fun to watch. And Lil’ Monster was no different. She kept trying to eat the sticks, kelp, and sand there. Even after I gave her gold fish the beach was more appetizing.

On Tuesday at Alcatraz I was so fascinated and was in such awe of the place that I have wanted to go to and see for so long. All that that trip did was make me want to go back and see the place again with Jeff. Next time we will remember the stroller for the girls. This will make the trip more enjoyable for all of us. But to finally be at the place where Al Capone spent several years of his life and the Bird Man Stroud too. That was just awesome. The picture below 100_3717 is of Papa Bear’s family looking into the Morgue on Alcatraz. In the back looks like something that could be an incinerator but isn’t. This is where the took the inmates when they died.

On Wednesday I worked on getting the girls home to a place they were more used too and where they could just run around and relax. They both went to bed relatively early and naps today went really easy.

Yesterday the same time that we left Papa Bear’s sister and niece left to drive back to Wyoming. We hope they made it back safe. And we already miss them all. Yesterday Silly Girl told me she misses her ‘Nana’ and her ‘Seft’. Which is really funny because she didn’t want anything to do with her ‘Nana’ while she was here. She will probably start talking about them now they are all gone. And ask how they are and when she can see them again.

Hopefully one of these days Papa Bear and I can make it back to Wyoming for a visit too.

I am just glad we All had so much fun.

Camping at Fallen Leaf

We had an excellent family vacation over the 4th of July weekend.

We have been planning and hoping to be able to go camping with Papa Bear’s family for the Holiday weekend.  So when the time came we started preparing, packing, buying and organizing our stuff so we could go.  Then the day before came and all still looked good for going.  Then Thursday was here.  At 3:00 PM there was still no fires and it still looked good for Papa Bear to come home.  Then at 4:00 PM there was a fire.  HUMPH!!!  My frustrations with the job started all over again.  There goes our family camping trip.  I called Papa Bear really early the next morning HOPING that we still might be able to go.  And finally we did go.  We left the house later than we wanted to and arrived up at our campground later than we wanted to but we were there.

The girls had a ball playing with their cousins and with grandma and grandpa.  Silly Girl rode her bike as much as she could, rode in the stroller during bike rides, took walks with grandma and grandpa while walking Chicka and went into the lake.  Lil’ Monster crawled all over the place turning herself pretty black.  It was sure a nice chore to keep her semi-clean, especially around the hands and face.

And Papa Bear of course took his kayak out on the lake.  I even had a chance to take the kayak out and Silly Girl went with me for a ride too.  But of course we don’t have any kayak pictures because Papa Bear forgot to take the camera when he went to the lake.  But that might have been a blessing in disguise since he tipped the kayak while he had the sail on in a big gust of wind that came up.  Now we only have one working cell phone battery for the two of us.  So right now my cell phone doesn’t work.

And Silly Girl ended up with her own assortment of war wounds. Silly Girl 100_3561 has always had a bad reaction to mosquito bites especially on her face.  So the first night that we were there at camp we were looking out for the mosquitoes but she ended up getting bit anyways.  The next morning she woke up with her eye almost swollen closed.  Right about the time that her eye was starting to look better Papa Bear went with Silly Girl so she could ride her bike for awhile.  The little stinker rode her bike right under a tree branch and was scratched right under her swollen eye.  The picture to the left is the day after.  She was a really good sport about it all.100_3514

While we were all at the lake enjoying our selves Lil’ Monster was down crawling and playing in the dirt and rocks.  She was having so much fun.

100_3547

Silly Girl and Papa Bear were wading out into the shallow parts of the lake and were standing on the rocks.  Here they are standing on a bigger rock that was sticking out of the Lake.  Papa Bear and Silly Girl were taking turns playing fetch with one of the dogs with us too.

On the last morning that we were there Papa Bear started packing us up early so we might have time to have some fun later.  While Papa Bear was packing Silly Girl was hijacking rides with whom ever she could get to give her one.  The one on the left is Silly Girl with grandma on the scooter and the one on the right is her cousin Seth on his bike.  As you can tell she was enjoying herself.
