I have been working really hard to try to teach my critters more about the scriptures and the church.
I have to teach them with more visuals and videos than with just stories, by teaching them this way the information seems to stick in their minds better.
Here is our Family Home Evening for this week:
Prayer: Silly Girl
Song: Keep the Commandments, (CS 146)
Lesson:
Show my critters 1 Nephi 3:7 and talk about it.
Explain to them that sometimes it might be hard to keep the commandments and do what our Heavenly Father wants us to do. Ask them why do they think it is important keep the commandments.
(When you keep the commandments and do what the Lord as asked – prompted – us to do we will have greater faith and the Holy Ghost with us at all times.)
Nephi didn’t want to slay Laban, in 1 Nephi 4:10 it says, “Never at any time have I shed the blood of man. And I shrunk and would that I might not slay him.” Finally Nephi heeded the Lord’s commandment and did slay Laban.
(You can use these cut outs of Laman and Lenuel and Nephi while you teach this lesson if you would like too.)
Why do you think Nephi slayed Laban? Do you know what slay means?
In 1 Nephi 4:13 it says, “Behold the Lord slayeth the wicked to bring forth his righteous purposes. It is better that on man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief.”
What do you think that scripture I read means?
We read in our scriptures and in other places that we shalt not kill. But Nephi did kill here. I think that the Lord was trying to tell us that in this one instance it was ok to kill Laban because he was a wicked man and he already tried to kill Nephi and his brothers. This is what the scripture I just read to you means.
The brass plates that Nephi went to get for is father, Lehi had Lehi’s family genealogy on them. The brass plates were important to have so he could share them with his family now and future generations to come and for us now in these latter-days.
Nephi is returning the plates to Lehi.
