  • 24 Days of Christmas

Every year at Christmas time our family reads, listens to and watches special messages to learn more about the life of Jesus Christ and the real meaning of Christmas. Each day listed below takes you to the place that describes what we do for that day in December.

Coco is such a silly girl

Coco likes to hang out with me while I work at my desk.  Sometimes she doesn't care that I'm working at she likes my work area as a nice pillow.

Other times she is just content to lay close to me and take a nap.  This is my old computer chair.  For Christmas one of my presents was a new computer chair.  We kept the old one just for the cats to be close to me at my desk and me while I work.

These last two Coco deciding she needs some extra attention so she jumped on my lap and took over until she was satisfied.  I like this time though because I also get kisses.

Sparky

Sparky was Monkey girl's second market goat.  After we raised Nitro as a bottle baby we decided that we would go the same way for our next market goat as well.

I found him from a breeder that is an hour away from us.  We had no idea what to expect.  We just grabbed the kennel and hit the road.  This new breeder sent us home with a bottle already made up.  When we got home Sparky was hungry.  Monkey jumped out of the car and gave him the bottle right away.  It was so nice getting a goat this year that was already used to the bottle.  I big difference from last year.

All the way home from picking up this new goat we started talking about names.  Once again we told Monkey that she could name him whatever she wanted but we still had veto power.  She thought really hard about what she wanted to name him.  Finally she choose Sparky.  We thought the name was great.

A new baby goat brings lots of joy, happiness and love to our house.  All three Critters were so excited to see Sparky com home.  Sparky was full of so much energy and was so playful.  The Critters loved watching him run around.

Starting out with a bottle baby this time went a ton smoother.  The late night feedings and early morning ones reminded me a lot when my Critters we little and I would take care of them late at night.

He was a strong fast growing boy. We watched him grow and knew he would be a great market goat at fair.

The second day that we had him home Goose was outside playing with Sparky.  Next think we know Goose was being attacked by Sparky.  He was on top of her with his tongue out licking her like crazy.

We have been heard many times lately, "who needs a dog; a goat is so much more fun!"

Our 2016 Reading Challenge

My critters and I started reading a lot more together at the end of last year so when January came around I decided to make our reading challenge a lot more ambitious than I usually would.  I guessed that we would be able to read 30 books for the year 2016.  Boy was I wrong!  We ended up surpassing our goal and reading a whopping 66 books instead!

I started reading a book series with Monkey last year and this year we continued reading them.  we read 41 books this year and we loved them.  The Who Is? What Was? Where Is? books are great books that teach about different people, places and things of the world.

In all Monkey and I read 43 books this year!  WOW!  That is such an incredible amount of books.

I pushed myself to read and finish some books that have been sitting on the book shelf for so long.  I really loved being able to read as much as I have this year.

For the 2017 year I think I'm going to go big; I want to read 60 books this year.  Hopefully we surpass that goal again with another 30 books.

Nitro

Nitro was Monkey girl's first market goat.  She worked very hard with him getting him ready for her first time at our local fair.

When we first started our goat project we were looking around like crazy trying to figure out where we would get Monkey girl's first market goat.  Then one day we received an email from Monkey girl's 4-H goat project leader telling us that one of the local Boer goat breeders had a kid that was on the bottle and needed a new home.

At first I passed up on the email.  I  thought raising a bottle baby market goat was a crazy idea.  After a day or two went by Monkey's dad came home.  I told him about the email.  We talked about it for a long time before the critters came home from school.  In the end we decided to go for it and see how it goes.  We got out the kennel, picked up the critters and made a few phone calls.

Our critters were so excited to go get a baby goat.  We picked him up and took him right to the store to pick up the supplies we needed.

The first day of getting him to take the bottle was very difficult.   On the second day we finally got him to latch on to the bottle and drink up.  After he finally got the hang of bottle he started eating up lake crazy after that.

We told Monkey that she could name her goat whatever she wanted but that we had veto power if we didn't like the name.  Monkey has been really big into Minecraft and we didn't want some crazy name.  In the end Monkey picked out a great name for her first bottle baby market goat; she named him Nitro.

Monkey was so excited to have her first baby goat she opted to stay on the shoe bench in the entry way right next to him  She slept there all night with her blankets.  In the morning we found her on the sofas.  She said she liked sleeping close to her goat but the shoe bench was really uncomfortable and hard.  The shoe bench is made of wood and so her reason for moving made me chuckle.

We left Nitro in the entry way of the house for just over a week.  Then I decided it was too messy for him to stay in the house and he was moved out into the garage.  I already work to hard to keep the house clean.  Cleaning the house up after a goat was too much for me.

As time went by we became a lot better with the bottle feedings.  We learned a trick that help us a lot.  We started feeding Nitro under our legs like he would suckle from mom's udder.  He took right to it.  He started to gain weight and make great progress toward his fair body.

FHE: Jesus Christ Created the World for Me

"Behold, the Lord hath created the earth that it should be inhabited; and he hath created his children that they should possess." ~ 1 Nephi 17:36

 Opening Prayer:

Song: CSB #228 My Heavenly Father Loves Me

We all have a Father in Heaven that loves us so much, that He knew ho important it was for them to gain a mortal body and experience mortality.  Under His direction Jesus Christ created the earth.  He wanted to make the earth beautiful for us.  Everything on the earth was created for our benefit.

Working under the direction of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ created the beautiful world we live in (see Moses 2:1).  The purpose of the creation of the earth was to give us a place where we could be tested and gain experiences in order to become more like our Heavenly Father (see Abraham 3: 24-25).  The wonderful beauties of the earth bear witness of the poser and great love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (see Moses 6:63).

Story:

THE CREATION

When Heavenly Father presented the great plan of happiness in the Council in Heaven, we shouted for joy.  Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, were giving us the opportunity to comee to earth to grow and learn so that we could become like Them.

Under the direction of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ created a wonderful world where we could live.  The creation too six days.

Day 1: First, Jesus divided the light from the darkness to make day and night.

Day 2: On the second day, He organized the heaven and the earth.

Day 3: On the third day, He divided the land from the waters and created grass, flowers, trees, fruit, and herbs.

Day 4: On the fourth day, He created the sun, moon, and stars.

Day 5: On the fifth day, He created the fish and birds.

Day 6: On the sixth day, Jesus created the animals.

Then, most important of all, Heavenly Father created man "in his own image; in the image of God created he him; make and female created he them" (Genesis 1:27).  Adam and Eve were the first man and woman to live on the earth and care for it.

Day 7: Since the beginning of the world, one day a week has been set apart for us to rest from our labors, and to focus on worship and spiritual matters. We call this day the Sabbath.
